The Box Factory in Bend began its story in 1916, when the Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company built it as a dedicated facility for crafting wooden shipping crates used to transport everything from fruit to ammunition. For decades, it was an essential part of Bend’s industrial landscape, standing as the last of its kind in the city before closing its doors in 1994.

Nearly twenty years later, in 2013, real estate developer Killian Pacific purchased the property and set out to transform the weathered building into something new while honoring its past. They preserved the original woodwork, columns, siding, and distinctive cupola, while updating the structure with modern systems. By 2014, the space had been fully reimagined, and in 2016, the Box Factory celebrated its 100th anniversary as a vibrant hub rather than an idle relic.

Today, the Box Factory sits between downtown Bend and the Old Mill District, housing more than thirty-five locally owned businesses. Its halls and open spaces bustle with the energy of bars, breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, fitness studios, boutiques, and creative studios. Visitors can sip a pint at UPP Liquids, a renowned brewer-owned restaurant and brewery, enjoy a flavorful bowl at Miyagi Ramen, snack on Jalisco-style tacos at Papi Chulos Taqueria, or relax over a glass at Stoller Wine Bar. Cafés like Strictly Organic keep the mornings lively, while spots such as River Pig Saloon draw a lively evening crowd.

Once a utilitarian factory floor, the Box Factory is now a thriving destination where Bend locals and visitors alike gather for good food, craft drinks, shopping, and community all under one historic roof.
